Dental Technician

The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) invites suitably qualified persons to enlist in the JDF as a Professional Entry Officer to fill the position of Dental Technician.

Dental Technician at the Health Services Corps, Support Brigade

Nationality: Be a citizen of the Commonwealth

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Dental Laboratory Technology or equivalent qualification;
• Be registered with the Jamaica Dental Council and have a valid practicing certificate;
• A minimum of two (2) years post-qualification experience as a practicing Dental Laboratory Technician.

Knowledge and Technical Skills

• Knowledge of best practices in Dentistry;
• Knowledge of and practice within the legal, ethical and professional boundaries that guide the practice of Dentistry;
• Excellent and efficient clinical skills;
• Excellent knowledge and use of proper infection control protocols.

Critical and Analytical Thinking Skills

• Strong ability to work independently;
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work cohesively within a diverse community;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills;
• Strong attention to details.

Attitude

Must demonstrate the aptitude and desire to assimilate into military life.

Military Standards

In addition to the academic qualifications and competencies, candidates must be able to pass the assessments requirements for enlistment in the JDF.

Key Responsibilities

• Take accurate dental impressions;
• Pour and trim models;
• Fabricate removable partial dentures (acrylic and metal) and complete dentures;
• Repair and reline dentures;
• Fabricate custom trays, temporary crowns and bridges, removable orthodontic appliances, protective mouth guards and splints;
• Maintain accurate dental laboratory records for each patient;
• Ensure the Dental Laboratory operates within the parameters of the Dental Act of Jamaica.
